12 months of cycling
Year in review. It’s that time again. And even though the cycling season is really March to October, I figured I’d do a 12 months of cycling review from another busy season that saw me racing in the red and white for Escape Velocity. Once upon a time, there used to be an off-season. Now, with an indoor track season in the winter and a cross bike for those blustery fall days,...
christmas cactus
After a few years of not blooming, the Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera bridesii) that sits on my desk by the window is in glorious bloom at the office right now. Right on queue. Couldn’t have timed it any better. I’m impressed. It’s been great to watch over the past week.

With 27 women entered for the scratch race, two qualifying heats were held with the top 10 in each advancing to the final. With so many qualifying, there was little incentive to drive the pace and both heats more or less waited for ...

Peloton. The French word for the main pack of cyclists in a bicycle race. One can only guess that Lance had something to do with the popularity of the word this year. I’m a fan of words and have subscribed to the A.Word.A.Day service for years now. Everyday, another new word. I can’t say I use my newfound daily vocabulary nearly enough, even when it seems like the condign thing to...
